Coming Monday morning

A different daily newsletter, a new way to understand the news.

Hi. My name is David Leonhardt, with The New York Times. I am writing to you because you currently receive the Morning Briefing from us each day. I realize you're busy and may not always read it. So I want to tell you about some exciting changes that we're making.

Our goal is to provide you with news, clarity, and, ideally, some delight — in just a few minutes of reading time.

Starting Monday, I'll be your new guide to The Times, as the newsletter's lead writer. The newsletter will also have a new look, with stories organized more clearly by subject. You'll see more graphics, for example, and some new other features. And the newsletter will have a new name: The Morning. I hope you'll check it out.

A bit more about me: I've been working at The Times since 1999 — as a business reporter, economics and politics columnist, magazine staff writer, founding editor of The Upshot section and Washington bureau chief. I went into journalism because I've always been fascinated by the news, and I particularly appreciate any story that cuts through the jargon and complexity to help me really understand something. As a writer, I try to provide that clarity in everything I do.

As part of The Morning, you'll also get a peek behind the curtain at The Times — at the more than 1,700 Times journalists, including doctors, lawyers, cartographers, former Marines and other experts, reporting from more than 150 countries around the world. If you have any thoughts, at anytime, send us an email at themorning@nytimes.com.

I'll see you in your inbox on Monday.
